Persimmon Fest plans under way
Ministerial Association will be grand marshal

The 63rd annual festival theme, announced earlier this week, will be “Welcome Home.”

“This is a time when a lot of people come home for reunions,” said festival general chairwoman Vicky Schlegel. “It always feels like home when you come to the festival.”

This year’s theme promises to recreate that feeling of home once again, as it will feature many of the usual events the people of Mitchell have grown to love.

The festival kicks off Sept. 19 with various events and the candlelight tour.

There will be some new events to enjoy this September, Schlegel said, and the float contest will return following a positive response last year.

The grand marshal, also announced earlier this week, will be the Mitchell Area Ministerial Association, which was chosen, in part, for its outstanding service to the community — something Schlegel says is “part of having a hometown.”

Ministerial Association President Dave Mikulsky believes the group will represent the community well.

“We are honored to be selected to be the grand marshal for the festival,” he said.

Festival planners are now getting everything under way, Schlegel said.

The festival will run until Sept. 26. This year’s co-chairs are Krystal Shetler and Larry Hardman.
